Thurston Dealer Group recovered Volvo dealership from Chapter 11, re-opened as Volvo of Tempe December 2010 and moves to new facility at Tempe Autoplex on June 13, 2011.

TEMPE, AZ- Volvo of Tempe, previously named Powell Volvo, is moving to a newly remodeled dealership in the Tempe Autoplex on June 13th, 2011. Powell Volvo filed for Chapter 11 in February 2010 and was recovered by new owners, the Thurston Dealer Group, in December 2010. The revived location on McDowell road was only a temporary facility to serve as development until the new dealership could be remodeled in the Tempe Autoplex.

Volvo of Tempe is one of only two Volvo dealerships in the valley and the new revamped dealership will provide full customer accommodations in the service, parts and sales departments. The Thurston Dealer Group has owned the vacant facility in the Autoplex for over a year and awaited the possibility of filling the space with Volvo of Tempe for some time. Since the formerly well known, “Scottsdale Motor Mile” has lost a significant amount of life with abandoned dealerships, the current location suffers from minimal street traffic. The Tempe Autoplex is still thriving and offers a much better opportunity to be seen and visited by passing car shoppers. Located off I-10, it will provide Volvo of Tempe with a much more convenient and pleasant location.

General Manager, Mike Wasserman, is more than excited for the long awaited move. He shared, “It has been a time consuming and exhausting process to rebuild the lost business of this Volvo dealership. With much appreciation for our loyal customers, we look forward to rewarding them with a brand new facility. We are also looking forward to accommodating new potential customers with the convenient location and contemporary design. The new facility is what Volvo customers deserve.”
